Receiving or rejecting Others

Matt 10:14--"And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words       {Is this passage true?]

when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.

41        "He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet

[Prophet]

shall receive a prophet's reward

And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man                               [Righteous man]

shall receive a righteous man's reward.

42    "And whoever gives one of these little ones

only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple

[A disciple]

assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward."

The Opposite of Receiving Others:

  1. reject—to deny acceptance, care, or love to someone
  2. shun—it keep away from
  3. avoid—to evade, elude, dodge
  4. snub—to treat with scorn, contempt, or to behave coldly toward
  5. ignore—to deliberately disregard, to refuse to consider
  6. sectarian—narrow-minded, limited, devoted to a characteristic of a sect.
  7. rebuff–to refuse friendship or a relationship or even conversation

Mark 9:37--"Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me;

and whoever receives Me.

receives not Me but Him who sent Me."         [Receiving the one sent, means you receive the sender]

38        Now John answered Him, saying,

"Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name

and we forbade him because he does not follow us."                    [Sectarianism—denominationalism]

39        But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him,

for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me.

40        "For he who is not against us is on our side.  (NKJ)                                                [Is this really true?]

Luke 9:49--Now John answered and said,

"Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name,      [The issue was casting out demons]

and we forbade him because he does not follow with us."                           [Sectarianism—denominationalism]

50        But Jesus said to him, "Do not forbid him.

for he who is not against us is on our side."  (NKJ)

Outer Darkness” occurs three times in N. T. (only in the Gospel of Matthew)

Matt 8:10--When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed,                [Jewish multitude!]

"Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!   [Roman Centurion]

11-12  "And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and

Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.  But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness.

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."   (NKJ)

Matt 22:11--"But when the king came in to see the guests,                             [Man without a wedding garment!]

he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment.

12        "So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?'

And he was speechless.

13        "Then the king said to the servants.

'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness;

there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'  (NKJ)

Matt 25:30--`And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness.    [The unprofitable servant!]

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'   (NKJ)

1 Cor 4:7--For who makes you differ from another?

[Three Questions]

And what do you have that you did not receive?

Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?  (NKJ)

2 Cor 10:12--For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves                                        [You are not the standard]

with those who commend themselves.

But they, measuring themselves by themselves                                   [We are not the Divine Yardstick!]

and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.  (NKJ)

Luke 9:5--"And whoever will not receive you, when you go out of that city,

shake off the very dust from your feet as a testimony against them."  (NKJ)                   [Luke 10:10-12]

Mark 6:11--"And whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there,

shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them.

Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah

in the day of judgment than for that city!"  (NKJ)

Luke 9:53(NKJ)--But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem.

54        And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said,    [Disciples had this principle down pat!]

"Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them

just as Elijah did?"

55        But He turned and rebuked them, and said, "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.

*John 1:10--He was in the world, and the world was made through Him,

and the world did not know Him.

11        He came to His own,                                                                                                                                                                                                               and His own did not receive Him.

12        But as many as received Him,

to them He gave the right to become children of God,

to those who believe in His name:  (NKJ)

*John 3:11--"Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen,

how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?  (NKJ)

John 5:42--"But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.

43        "I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me,

if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.  (NKJ)

John 12:48--"He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words                                                                                            has that which judges him-- the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.  (NKJ)

*John 14:1--"Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.

I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3          "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself

that where I am, there you may be also.  (NKJ)

*Eph 1:6--To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.  (KJV)
